Spend an evening with Major General Lafayette and your American Friends of Lafayette hosts at the final ticketed event of our 5-day bicentennial tribute in Baltimore a “Farewell Lafayette Soirée” sendoff starting at 5:30 PM. Immerse yourself in a journey through time experiencing a unique blend of 19th century American and French history coupled with live music and theater and a fine Franco-American cocktail buffet. Explore the beautifully restored Peale Museum Lafayette visited 200 years ago where the art of storytelling has a new life. Peruse the informative display panels that illustrate Lafayette’s contributions to American democratic ideals. Enjoy the debut of a historical musical production about Lafayette’s Baltimore visit and indulge in a feast for the senses. This evening guarantees an unforgettable experience.

Highlights of the “Farewell Lafayette” evening:
-Pay tribute to Baltimore’s pre-eminence in 19th century America: Beam with pride that Baltimore the 3rd largest city in 1824 when Lafayette arrived by boat at Fort McHenry was a favored stop by Major General Lafayette during his Farewell Tour 200 years ago. Send off today’s Lafayette with a heartfelt Baltimore farewell for the rest of the 2024-25 commemorative bicentennial journey!

Wheelchair and Physical Building Access / The Peale has a brand new elevator! The new accessible entrance is on the left side of the building, down Watchouse alley about 100 ft. There is a keypad on the right side of the elevator door. Press the button to call the elevator. There is a door that will swing open automatically once the elevator is called so stand back. Once the door is open you can enter the elevator portico and then step/roll/dance into the elevator. When you come out of the elevator you will be in a short hallway by the bathrooms and the lobby and welcome desk is on the right. There are three floors in the Peale there is a handrail on all flights of stairs. Various and ample forms of seating is available in every room. The historic entrance has five steps and no functioning handrail.
Parking / There is a temporary drop off spot in the “no parking” zone directly in front of the Holliday St. entrance. There are multiple public paid parking lots within a two block radius of The Peale as well as street parking. There are 4 access parking spots on the 200 block of Holliday Street.
