We invite you to join us to celebrate and reflect on this unique year in MA Social Design. Students will show off their capstone work, releasing a book, going behind the scenes of the program, and reflecting on the future of social design in this moment. Streaming and CART captioning is available from 6-8pm ET. Guests are welcome to join in-person or online for any portion of the event.
AGENDA
5-6pm: In-person guests are invited to explore exhibits prepared by MASD’25, on projects ranging from capstones to community collaborations. We will also be releasing a book (Social Design Now: Reflections and Speculations from MICA MASD) that reflects on our year and speculates on the future of social design in this moment. We will offer light fare and music provided by gum.mp3. (We’re fortunate that work from MICA’s Hoffberger School of Painting (MFA) will also be on view!)
6-6:30pm: We’ll open the event with a behind-the-scenes look at our values, approach and work. MASD’25 students will speak briefly about their capstone projects, and we will celebrate the partners we’ve collaborated with throughout the year. Streaming available
6:30-8pm: We will facilitate two ~30 minute conversations during this time. First, we will organize a conversation about Design, Neighboring, Care and Conflict. In this discussion, we’ll elevate the tensions in our work, explore the ethics of our practice and reflect on lessons learned (and mistakes made) in our work this year. Our second conversation will focus on Imagining the Future of Social Design in 2025 and Beyond. In this discussion, we will speculate on the role of social design as a graduate program and practice. Streaming available
8-9pm: We invite in-person guests to join us for informal conversations with our students and each other about the exhibits, book, and program design.
The Peale has intentionally invested in making its physical building and exhibits accessible to the public. Learn more about their approach, and about parking arrangements.
