The Peale is Baltimore’s Community Museum.

Just Announced – EARTH SEED Film Screening

The Peale is delighted to present a special screening of EARTH SEED: A People’s Journey of Radical Hospitality on Friday, October 17. Brought to you by filmmaker Fox Nakai and the People’s Kitchen Collective, this feature-length documentary invited viewers to envision and enact a collective future.

People’s Kitchen Collective (PKC), based in Oakland, California, works at the intersection of art and activism as a food-centered political education project. EARTH SEED centers a pilgrimage through California from Los Angeles to Mendocino Woodlands that happened between March and June 2023. The collective visited with people and places, building models for survival and our collective future.

EARTH SEED is a project rooted in Octavia Butler’s Parables series, the legacy of the Black Panther Party for Self Defense, and the diaspora of the global south. The film and greater project enacts radical hospitality as a survival practice by deepening relationships with BIPOC activists, artists, educators, farmers, youth, and elders. These themes resonate strongly in Baltimore, where community organizing, mutual aid, and cultural activism have long been powerful tools for resilience and transformation. The film offers both reflection and inspiration for how we might continue building collective futures grounded in care and solidarity.

The Peale is excited to host a screening of EARTH SEED, along with a Q&A Discussion with the filmmakers and special guests. Join us for this timely conversation that bridges art, activism, food, and community. Head to our Eventbrite page for full event details!
