Women’s and Gender Studies at Towson University is one of the nation’s oldest programs, spanning a period of more than 40 years. Courses were offered as early as 1971 and the program itself began in 1973. Women’s and Gender Studies moved from a program to a department in the spring of 2002.

Women’s and Gender Studies at Towson is both interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary, and seeks to understand the diversity of women’s experiences by exploring the intersection of gender, sexuality, race, class, and nation. By placing women at the center of analysis we seek to transform epistemological frameworks, social practices, meanings and social structures.

The exhibit introduces and discusses the creation of the department’s digital archives, which includes important oral histories, videos, photographs and documents. The archive’s ground-breaking, forward-facing character provides an all-access opportunity for students and public scholarship.
