Volunteer and Collaborate

The Peale is Baltimore’s Community Museum — a civic space where artists, historians, neighbors, educators, and creative thinkers come together to explore Baltimore’s past, present, and future.

Whether you want to volunteer, share a story, contribute creative work, or help bring programs to life, there are many ways to participate in the work of the museum.

Why Volunteer at The Peale

The Peale has always been a civic space. Founded in 1814 by Rembrandt Peale as a museum dedicated to public learning, the building has served Baltimore in many roles throughout its history — including City Hall and one of Maryland’s earliest public schools for African Americans.

Today, that civic tradition continues through:

  • exhibitions
  • public programs
  • oral history projects
  • digital storytelling
  • community partnerships
  • arts and cultural events

Volunteers help make this work possible by welcoming visitors, supporting exhibitions and events, documenting community stories, and helping us build new programs for Baltimore.

Creative Collaboration at The Peale

The Peale is also a place to build ideas together.

We regularly collaborate with:

  • artists and performers
  • historians and researchers
  • digital storytellers working in AR, VR, and immersive media
  • musicians and cultural producers
  • educators and workshop leaders
  • community groups documenting local history
  • creative entrepreneurs exploring café, retail, or cultural programming partnerships

If you have a project, idea, or collaboration you would like to explore, we would be glad to hear from you.

Send us a quick note.

Every message is reviewed by our team. If your idea aligns with current programming or upcoming initiatives, we will follow up directly to schedule a conversation.

Because The Peale operates as a working civic space — hosting exhibitions, performances, apprenticeships, and digital storytelling projects year-round — response times may vary slightly during major events. We appreciate your patience.
