Meet The Artists

2 Artist Talks – One Great Day at The Peale

Embers Held: Artist Talk

Saturday, February 21 | 2PM | 1st Floor

Explore the ideas, materials, and lived experiences behind Embers Held with artist LeRease Clark. Clark will speak about working with charcoal as a material shaped by fire and restraint, and how touch, pressure, and pause allow images to surface over time.

Drawing from personal experience, ancestral memory, and spiritual insight, the conversation will reflect on staying with states that resist closure. Bodies that carry history, darkness that remains charged, and intimacy that does not require exposure.

This talk offers a deeper look into Clark’s decades-long practice, their role as an exhibition installer at The Peale, and the philosophy of tending rather than forcing. Clark allows each work to remain an ember, sustained through attention and care.

Frame by Frame: A Personal Walk Through The Secret City

Saturday, February 21 | 12PM | 3rd Floor

Join photographer Joseph Mario Giordano for an artist talk turned on its head with a tour of each photograph in the exhibit. The artist will address questions such as “Why did you take this?”, “Why film?”, and “What’s with that composition?”. Get up close and personal with each piece in The Secret City and gain insight into what makes good composition, street photography, and breaking clichés in photography.

From BMoreArt: “The Secret City offers a vibrant counter-narrative: a tapestry of neighborhoods defined by more than sensational headlines and plastic pink flamingos.” Read the full article on BMoreArt

Experience a new type of phototalk with J.M. Giordano at The Peale. Be sure to reserve your spot for a can’t miss day at the museum.

Spend the day getting to know two of The Peale’s current exhibiting artists and the intentions, themes, and lived experiences that inform their practices. Start your afternoon with a Frame by Frame tour of J.M. Giordano’s works in color film featuring Baltimore’s “unsung middle ground”. Then, head downstairs to connect with artist LeRease Clark as they share the personal insights, memories, and experiences that guide their work. Ask our team at the Visitor’s Service desk for recommendations on the best bites in the area to round out your trip to Downtown!
